History
What is the history of CTIS?
For the last 27 years, CTIS, funded primarily by California’s Department of Education, has been based at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine.
CTIS’s mission is two-fold: education and research. Our goal is the elimination of preventable birth defects through the promotion of healthy pregnancies.
Over the years, our staff has increased to include an epidemiologist, full and part-time pregnancy risk information counselors (providing services in English and Spanish), clinical research follow-up personnel, outreach personnel and ancillary staff.
CTIS is coordinated by: Christina D. Chambers, Ph.D., M.P.H. – Program Director and Kenneth Lyons Jones, M.D. – Medical Director. Learn more about our staff.
In 2008 CTIS created a Scientific Advisory Board.
CTIS is a member of the Organization of Teratology Information Specialists (OTIS).
