About UsThe Pregnancy Risk Information Line is a statewide telephone service operated by the California Teratogen Information Service (CTIS) and Clinical Research Program. Our service provides FREE information over the telephone about non-prescription and prescription medications, recreational drugs, infectious diseases, chemicals, and physical agents which may be harmful to an unborn baby. This service is offered to the general public, including pregnant women, fathers, physicians, and other health care providers. The information and counseling is provided in a non-directive, and non-judgmental manner. For the last 27 years, CTIS, funded primarily by California’s Department of Education, has been based at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. CTIS’ mission is two-fold: education and research. The goal is the elimination of preventable birth defects through the promotion of healthy pregnancies. Over the years, the staff has increased to include an epidemiologist, full and part-time pregnancy risk information specialists (bilingual in Spanish and Tagalog), clinical research follow-up personnel, outreach personnel and ancillary staff. CTIS is coordinated by: Christina D. Chambers, Ph.D., M.P.H. (Program Director) CTIS Pregnancy Risk Information and Kenneth Lyons Jones, M.D. Medical Director, CTIS Pregnancy Risk Information.
