CDC Selects CTIS Affiliate As Primary Public Resource for Medications In Pregnancy

DENTON, TX – The Centers for Disease Control, the U.S. federal agency that aims to promote public health and safety, has named the Organization of Teratology Information Specialists (OTIS) its primary public resource for those seeking information about medications in pregnancy. OTIS is the national affiliate of CTIS Pregnancy Health Information Line.

A spokesperson with the CDC’s National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities said the medications in pregnancy webpage has recently been updated to list OTIS as the primary resource for information after seeing OTIS and its affiliates’ vast outreach efforts and evidence-based research promoting the prevention of birth defects. The OTIS website, as well as its hotline, are highlighted in different places on the CDC site. See it by clicking here.

“The CDC is very particular about who it lists as a public resource,” said Lori Wolfe, MS, CGC, president of OTIS and director of OTIS’ Texas affliate, the Texas Teratogen Information Specialists (TTIS) Pregnancy Riskline. “It really says a lot about how far we’ve come that we are now the CDC’s go-to resource for medications in pregnancy and we couldn’t be happier knowing this will help us inform even more women,” she added.

OTIS is a non-profit with affiliates, like CTIS, in states across North America. The network of affiliates aims to educate the public about exposures during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Read more about medications, diseases, and other common exposures in our fact sheet library here.
