CTIS Recognizes Nurses During Appreciation Week
SAN DIEGO, CA – As nurses across the nation are applauded for their tremendous contributions to the medical field during “Nurse Appreciation Week,” held from May 6th – 12th, CTIS experts specifically recognize the integral role they play in supporting pregnant and breastfeeding women.
“Nurses, nurse-midwives, nurse practitioners, psychiatric nurses, public health nurses, whichever kind of nurse they are, they all have a common goal of supporting patients both emotionally and medically, but often don’t get the recognition they deserve,” explained Robert Felix, a senior teratogen information specialist and CTIS Pregnancy Health Information Line’s outreach coordinator. “What a lot of people may not know is not only are they doing their demanding daily jobs, many nurses here in California also take the time out to support CTIS by referring their patients to us,” he added.
According to Felix, since CTIS’ inception in 1979, nurse referrals have made up a large portion of the calls, e-mail and chat inquiries CTIS counselors receive regarding exposures during pregnancy and lactation.
“By referring to our services when pregnant and breastfeeding women have questions about exposures, many nurses go above and beyond their normal call of duty to ensure patients receive the best care possible,” said Felix. “That effort should definitely be applauded this week and beyond.”
